Google Home now works with some Sony speakers and Android TVs

The recently launched Google Home connected speaker is slowing adding new third-party devices that will work with the product. This week, Sony revealed that some of its Chromecast built-in Sony speakers can connect to Google’s latest hardware product, along with some of its and Android TV-based 4K HDR televisions.

If you own one of these Sony speakers and Google Home, you can say, “Ok Google, play some workout music on my Sony speaker”, for instance. You can also ask it to stream your favorite playlist from your preferred music service. Other voice commands will allow you to control the volume of the speaker, stop or skip over a music track, or even ask for a song’s title simply by saying, “Ok Google, what is playing?”

All of Sony’s Android TVs now support Google Home, too. The company’s sound bars that support the speaker include the HT-ST9, HT-NT5, HT-CT790, HT-XT2, and HT-RT5 models, along with the STR-DN1070, STR-DN1060, and STR-DN860 receivers. Finally, the Sony wireless speakers with the model numbers SRS-X99, SRS-ZR7, SRS-ZR5, and SRS-HG1 all now work with Google Home.

Sony intros the Xperia XA Ultra.... 16 MP selfie camera

A large Android Marshmallow phone with a 16 MP selfie camera

Sony intros the Xperia XA Ultra: a large Android Marshmallow phone with a 16 MP selfie camera
Sony yesterday unveiled a brand new Android smartphone: the Xperia XA Ultra, which becomes the fourth handset in the company's Xperia X series (also including the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XA).

The Xperia XA Ultra is the same device that we previously saw presented (unofficially) as the Xperia C6 Ultra. As its name suggests, the XA Ultra is a larger version of the Xperia XA, having a relatively similar design - including an edge-to-edge display. Of course, since this is a bigger device, the display is also bigger than on the regular XA: it's a 6-inch panel with 1080 x 1920 pixels.

One of the highlight features of the Sony Xperia XA Ultra is its 16 MP front-facing camera with LED flash and OIS (optical image stabilization), which should let you take high quality selfies. The handset also packs a 21.5 MP rear camera, but it seems that this one doesn't have OIS - thus, the recently released HTC 10 may remain the only smartphone to offer OIS on both the front, and rear cameras.

We've yet to see the Xperia XA Ultra on any of Sony's websites, so its full list of specs is currently missing. Anyhow, the new device runs Android Marshmallow, and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6755 processor (aka Helio P10), further featuring 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable internal memory, and a quick-charging battery that can last up to two days on a single charge.

Sony plans to release the Xperia XA Ultra starting July, but only select markets will get the phone (at the moment, we don't know if the US is among them). Pricing details haven't been revealed. How much would you be willing to pay for this new Xperia?
